Cannot install the game
There can be multiple reasons why you’re not able to install StarRupture. Please perform the troubleshooting below before contacting your local repair shop or Steam Support.
- Temporary cache or background process issues can sometimes prevent installation. Restart both Steam and your computer before trying again.
- Make sure the drive you’re installing to has enough free space for the game, plus at least 10-20 GB extra for temporary files.
- Ensure the internet connection is stable (avoid Wi-Fi if possible).
- Temporarily disable VPNs, firewalls, or proxy settings that might interfere with downloads.
- Running Steam with administrator rights is also advised (the default path of the .exe file is: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam. You should look for a “steam” file marked as an application).
- Check the Steam Library folder. To do that: Go to Steam > Settings > Storage → Ensure the selected drive is listed and writable. → If needed, create a new library folder on another drive and try installing there.
- Reinstall Steam.
- Check for Windows updates and Steam client updates - outdated system components can sometimes interfere with installation.
- Sometimes permissions or bad sectors cause issues on a specific drive. Please try to install the game on a different physical drive, not only a different partition of the drive.
- If the steps above don’t help, as a last resort, you can clear the Steam Download Cache. In Steam, select Steam > Settings > Downloads > Clear Download Cache. Then log in again and retry the installation.
