Combat - Reloading Mechanics and Chambered Rounds
In StarRupture, the weapon reloading system features a realistic mechanic known as chambering. This allows most firearms to hold one extra round of ammunition in addition to the magazine's standard capacity (often called the "+1" mechanic).
When you reload a weapon that still has ammo in it, the round currently in the chamber stays there. You simply swap the old magazine for a new, full one.
For example, when you reload a 30-round rifle when it’s not empty, you will have 31 rounds (30 in the new magazine + 1 already in the chamber).
On an empty reload, your character inserts a new 30-round magazine and must then "chamber" the first round - and you still have 30 rounds.
