Lost | Overwritten Save File

Please be aware that we are unable to restore the save file itself if it was deleted/overwritten from your desktop. However, you may be able to check the Steam Cloud Storage. If the save is not overwritten there, you could potentially bring it back to the current version of the game. However, please note that we're not able to restore the save file itself.

Please note that this troubleshooting includes file manipulation, so you need to follow each step carefully.

To see how to bring back the Cloud save file to the current version of the game, please follow the guides below:

  1. Log into the Steam Cloud Viewer: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage
  2. You should be able to navigate to StarRupture > Show Files > Saved/SaveGames/[name of your file.sav] & [Saved/SaveGames/[name of your file/1.met] > Download both of them. Please note that you need both the .sav file and the .met file for the save to load correctly.
  3. Turn off Steam Cloud (Please select Steam > Settings > Cloud > Disable Steam Cloud, and for StarRupture select StarRupture > Properties > Steam Cloud > Disable).
  4. Launch StarRupture > Make a new session > Save the game or wait for an autosave.
  5. Completely turn off Steam along with the game.
  6. Access the default path for saves C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[Your Unique Steam ID]\1631270\remote\Saved\SaveGames. (If your saved files are not under this location, please navigate to a path similar to the one where you have Steam installed.)
  7. Paste both .sav and .met files into the new folder.
  8. Launch the game and check if the save files are loading correctly.
  9. At this step, you’ll be able to turn the Steam Cloud back on.
